Washington (USA), 7 January (LaPresse) – Aldrich Ames, the CIA traitor who sold confidential information from Western intelligence services to the Soviet Union and Russia, has died in a Maryland prison at the age of 84. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the US Bureau of Prisons, who specified that he died on Monday. Ames admitted to receiving $2.5 million from Moscow in exchange for US secrets from 1985 until his arrest in 1994. His actions led to the executions of Western agents and dealt a serious blow to the CIA. He pleaded guilty to espionage and tax evasion and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
