Washington (US), Jan. 7 (LaPresse) – The United States intends to maintain significant control over Venezuela’s oil industry, including overseeing the sale of the country’s production “indefinitely.” This was stated by Energy Secretary Chris Wright during an energy conference organized by Goldman Sachs near Miami. “In the future, we will sell production from Venezuela on the market,” Wright said, according to The New York Times. His statements come after President Trump announced Tuesday evening that Venezuela would soon deliver tens of millions of barrels of oil to the United States. “We need to have this leverage and control over oil sales to promote the changes that absolutely must happen in Venezuela,” said Wright, a former oil industry executive, adding that the money “can then return to Venezuela for the benefit of the Venezuelan people.”
