Greenland, Sanchez: ‘We must not remain silent in the face of threats’

Madrid (Spain), 8 January (LaPresse) – “It is important that Spain’s voice is heard clearly when it comes to denouncing threats to the territorial integrity of a European state and NATO ally such as Denmark. We cannot accept this, either as a country or as a government. And we must not remain silent in the face of such explicit or implicit threats to international law.” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez made these remarks at the opening of the 2026 Ambassadors’ Conference in Madrid, referring to US President Donald Trump’s statements on Greenland. ‘Words matter, they have consequences and damage trust, paving the way for the unthinkable,’ ‘it is important that we speak clearly and do not remain silent,’ Sanchez added. The socialist leader stressed that his government is ‘pro-Atlanticist’ but, he said, ‘Atlanticism does not mean vassalage but loyal cooperation between equals’.
