Rome, Jan. 9 (LaPresse) – Russia may have carried out an attack on the Ukrainian Lviv region from the Kapustin Yar test range in Russia’s Astrakhan region, where, according to preliminary information, the Oreshnik missile system is based. This was reported by Colonel Yurii Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda, as reported by Ukrinform. “Launches from Kapustin Yar are likely. Preliminary reports indicate explosions in the Lviv region. Information is being clarified,” he said. The Air Force reported at 00:43 that “on January 8, 2026, around 23:30, a missile threat was declared across Ukrainian territory due to the threat of enemy use of ballistic missiles from the Kapustin Yar test range. Explosions were recorded in the Lviv region. Information is being clarified.” The ballistic missile used to attack Lviv, according to reconstructions, traveled at a speed of 13,000 kilometers per hour.
