North Korea: Kim dismisses deputy prime minister on eve of congress

Turin, 20 January (LaPresse) – North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has dismissed a deputy prime minister on the eve of an important key party congress. According to the North Korean news agency KCNA, Kim removed Deputy Prime Minister Yang Sung-ho “on the spot” during an inspection of the Ryongsong Machinery Complex modernisation project because the project “encountered difficulties and caused considerable economic losses”. The leader stressed that “breaking with the old practices of placing hope in people who have been accustomed to defeatism, irresponsibility and passivity for too long will be a new starting point for future pioneering spirit and development”, KCNA reported.
