Milan, 5 February (LaPresse) – Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has begun a hunger strike to protest against her continued detention and prison conditions. ‘Mohammadi is on her third day of hunger strike to protest against her illegal detention and current conditions,’ said the foundation that bears her name in a statement, ‘Fifty-five days have passed since 12 December, the day of Narges Mohammadi’s violent arrest by security forces in Mashhad, in north-eastern Iran.’ ‘Given Narges Mohammadi’s serious medical history, which includes heart attacks, chest pain, high blood pressure, as well as spinal disc problems and other illnesses, her continued detention is dangerous to her life and constitutes a violation of human rights laws,’ the statement said. ‘It is necessary for Narges Mohammadi to have constant access to her medical team and to continue her treatment.’
