Frankfurt (Germany), 6 February (LaPresse) – German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt believes that the eight-year prison sentence imposed on German citizen Maja T. by a Hungarian court is inevitable. ‘Maja T. belongs to a left-wing extremist group that attacked other people with batons, rubber hammers and other weapons,’ Dobrindt told broadcaster Rnd. ‘Serious physical damage was caused. One person suffered a skull fracture. This must lead to a conviction,’ explained Dobrindt, who defended the legal proceedings in Hungary: ‘Since these crimes were committed in Hungary, from my point of view there are no objections to a trial and subsequent sentencing in Hungary.’ Maja T., who is non-binary, is accused, along with other defendants on trial in Germany, of assaulting and in some cases seriously injuring several alleged right-wing extremists in Budapest in February 2023. The Federal Constitutional Court had declared the extradition of Maja T. to Hungary illegal. According to the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office, there is a legally binding guarantee for the return of Maja T. to Germany.
