USA: JD Vance threatened with death, 33-year-old charged

Rome, 7 February (LaPresse) – A man from Ohio accused of threatening to kill Vice President JD Vance has been arrested and charged. He will face federal charges. This was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. Earlier this week, a federal grand jury issued an indictment against 33-year-old Shannon Mathre of Toledo on charges of threatening Vance during the Vice President’s visit to northwestern Ohio last January. The Department of Justice said Mathre is charged with ‘threatening to kill and inflict bodily injury on a successor to the presidency, in violation of Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 871(a)’. According to the indictment, Mathre allegedly said: ‘I’m going to find out where he is and use my M14 automatic rifle to kill him.’ According to prosecutors, during the investigation into the threats, federal agents also found digital files of child pornography in Mathre’s possession. The man remains in police custody. His detention hearing is set for 11 February.
