Netanyahu travels to the United States, meeting with Trump scheduled for tomorrow

Milan, 10 February (LaPresse/AP) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leaves today for Washington to encourage President Donald Trump to broaden the scope of nuclear negotiations with Iran, which present significant challenges. The meeting between the two is scheduled for tomorrow. Negotiations between the United States and Iran resumed last week amid a US military build-up in the Middle East. Israel has long demanded that Iran cease all uranium enrichment activities, reduce its ballistic missile programme and sever its ties with militant groups in the region. Iran has consistently rejected these demands, saying it will only accept some restrictions on enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief. It is unclear whether Tehran’s calculations have changed or whether Trump is interested in expanding the already difficult negotiations.
