Defense, Merz-Starmer-Macron meeting in Munich: focus on security and Ukraine

Munich (Germany), 14 Feb. (LaPresse) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met yesterday with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Addressing the scope of the challenge Europe faces, the three leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together, along with other partners, to strengthen collective defense and security, Downing Street reports. They agreed that Europe must intensify efforts and do more to share the burden, while protecting the enduring strength of the Euro-Atlantic partnership. “We must leverage our enormous defense capacity to strengthen our common security and ensure services for our citizens,” Starmer said. The three leaders confirmed their ongoing support for Ukraine, especially in the face of recent and horrific attacks by Russia, and the ongoing work to secure a just and lasting peace. Merz, Starmer, and Macron look forward to further talks in Munich this weekend.
