Defense, Rubio: “End of the transatlantic era is not our goal”

Munich (Germany), 14 Feb. (LaPresse) – “At a time when headlines announce the end of the transatlantic era, let it be clear to everyone that this is neither our goal nor our desire, because for us Americans the home may be in the Western Hemisphere, but we will always be children of Europe. Our histories and destinies will always remain linked. We have bled and died side by side.” This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his speech at the Munich Security Conference, emphasizing the historical ties between the United States and Europe and affirming that Washington wants to build “a new century of prosperity” together with European allies. “The old international organizations should not be dismantled, but urgently rebuilt and reformed. The United Nations has enormous potential, but it has failed to resolve the wars in Gaza or Ukraine, repeatedly proving powerless. In a perfect world, these problems would be solved by diplomats and resolutions, but we do not live in a perfect world and we cannot allow those who threaten our citizens and global stability to hide behind abstractions of international law that they themselves violate,” Rubio added.
