Washington (USA), 14 Feb. (LaPresse) – The U.S. military reported carrying out another attack against a boat accused of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea, causing the death of three people. The announcement was made by U.S. Southern Command, stating that the boat “was transiting along known drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was involved in narcotics operations.” A video attached to Southern Command’s social media post shows a boat moving through the water before exploding in flames. Friday’s attack brings to 133 the number of deaths in the Trump administration’s attacks against alleged boats used for drug trafficking, in at least 38 attacks carried out since early September in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean. Last week, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that “some of the main cartel drug traffickers” in the region “have decided to cease all drug trafficking operations indefinitely due to recent highly effective kinetic strikes in the Caribbean.” However, Hegseth did not provide any details or information to support this claim, made in a post on his personal social media account. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States is in “armed conflict” with Latin American cartels and justified the attacks as a necessary escalation to curb the flow of drugs, but his administration has provided little evidence to support its claims regarding the killing of “narco-terrorists.”
