Tehran, Feb. 22 (LaPresse) – Iran has designated the “naval and air forces” of the European Union member states as terrorist organisations, in response to what it calls an “illegal and unjustified” decision adopted Thursday by the European Council. Brussels had in fact included the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organisations, following the agreement reached by the Foreign Affairs Council on January 29. “The decision of the EU governments is contrary to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter,” reads a statement from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cited by the Irna agency. The statement also refers to a 2019 Iranian law, approved after the United States had designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation, according to which “all countries that in any way respect or support the US decision will be subject to reciprocal measures.” On February 1, the Iranian Parliament had already designated the “European armies” as terrorist organisations.
