Tariffs, Urso: “We will not react impulsively, the U.S. is our first market”

Rome, Feb. 22 (LaPresse) – One must “not react impulsively but with a clear head, keeping in mind that the United States is not only our main non-European market, but also our main political and military ally, essential for the defense and freedom of the Continent and for securing our supply lines. We are working with other partners to achieve the continent’s strategic autonomy: think of energy, critical raw materials, space, and defense. But it takes time to reach this goal. Today we are vulnerable, and we must act in coordination with the United States.”

This is what Minister for Enterprises Adolfo Urso said in an interview with La Stampa. The reaction of the U.S. Supreme Court “had been anticipated for some time. The market response confirms it,” he explained, adding, “We never interfere in matters concerning the institutions of other countries. We act solely to defend national interests, as we also did with the Trump administration. We supported the European Commission’s path of agreement when others called for trade wars or boycotts, and we backed our companies to resist in the United States.”
