Washington (USA), 28 February (LaPresse) – Democrats are asking President Trump to provide further information to Congress on the military attack against Iran and are expressing concern about the risk of a widespread and prolonged war in the Middle East. Senator Mark Warner, Democratic leader of the Senate Intelligence Committee, questioned the necessity of the attack in a statement and warned that the United States could repeat ‘past mistakes’. ‘The Iranian leadership has long supported terrorism throughout the region, undermined regional stability, continued to pursue its nuclear ambitions and brutally repressed its own people,’ Warner wrote. ‘But recognising these realities does not exempt any president from the responsibility to act within the law, with a clear strategy and in consultation with Congress,’ he added. ‘The American people have seen this script before: claims of urgency, distorted intelligence and military action that propels the United States into regime change and prolonged and costly nation-building,’ Warner wrote, referring to the US war in Iraq.
