Iran, von der Leyen: ‘The only lasting solution is a diplomatic one’

Brussels, 2 March (LaPresse) – ‘The stability of the region is of fundamental importance. The only lasting solution is a diplomatic one, and this means a credible transition for Iran, a definitive halt to both its nuclear and ballistic programmes, and an end to activities that destabilise the region.’ This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference with Swiss President Guy Parmelin on the occasion of the signing of a package of agreements to deepen EU-Swiss relations. ‘This afternoon,’ she added, ‘we will discuss the overall situation at a meeting of the College of Commissioners, because from energy to nuclear power, from transport to migration to security, we must be prepared for the consequences of recent events.’
