Iran: traffic in the Strait of Hormuz practically at a standstill

Rome, 6 March (LaPresse) – According to the Joint Maritime Information Centre, naval traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has almost completely stopped. In a statement reported by international media, the Joint Maritime Information Centre said that only two confirmed commercial transits through the strait had been observed in the last 24 hours, and these were cargo ships rather than oil tankers. In normal times, around 138 vessels would have crossed the strait in 24 hours. However, it is explained that a high concentration of vessels remain anchored, adrift and moored in ports in the Persian Gulf. The JMIC’s assessment of the threat to security in the area remains “critical”, indicating that an attack is almost certain.
