Iran: Lebanon, over half a million displaced in a week

Beirut (Lebanon), 8 March (LaPresse/AP) – Lebanon has announced that over half a million people have been displaced this week during fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The actual number is probably higher. Lebanon’s count of 517,000 people refers to those who have registered on the government’s online portal. The cash-strapped government has struggled to provide accommodation for the large number of people who have fled their homes in much of southern and eastern Lebanon. Last week, Israel called on residents of dozens of villages in southern Lebanon and the entire southern suburbs of Beirut to leave their homes due to intensifying fighting.
