Norway: explosion outside US embassy causes minor damage to entrance

Milan, 8 March (LaPresse) – There has been an explosion near the US embassy in Oslo, with no casualties reported. This was reported by the Norwegian police, as reported by CBS. “Around 1 a.m., a loud bang/explosion was reported at the scene. The police are in contact with the embassy and no injuries have been reported. At the moment, there is no precise information on what happened or who may be responsible,” the Oslo police said in a statement. The public broadcaster NRK quoted police commander Michael Dellemyr as saying that the explosion hit the entrance to the consular section of the embassy. ‘Around 1 a.m., we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly after and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US embassy,’ he told NRK. ‘The damage is minor.’ Dellemyr told TV2 Oslo that the police ‘will not issue any statements about the type of damage, what exploded and other similar details, beyond the fact that there was an explosion,’ as ‘the investigation is still in its early stages.’
