Scotland, fire at Glasgow station: rail services suspended

Rome, 9 March (LaPresse) – A large fire engulfed a building at Glasgow Central Station (Scotland), causing it to partially collapse, according to the BBC. The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in an e-cigarette shop on Union Street; the Victorian building collapsed several hours later as the flames spread. All train services to and from the station have been cancelled, and National Rail has announced that the railway hub, the busiest in Scotland, will remain closed until further notice. No casualties have been reported. After a meeting at midnight, Network Rail stated: “At this stage, we have not identified any significant damage to the station. We will assess the situation fully at first light”.
