EU: Italy, Germany and Belgium hold pre-summit meeting on energy and simplification

Brussels, 10 March (LaPresse) – Today, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever organised a video conference meeting on competitiveness ahead of the European Council meeting on 19 March. LaPresse learned this from EU sources. A “dozen leaders” are expected to attend the meeting to discuss simplification and measures to tackle rising energy prices. The initiative follows that of 12 February, when, prior to the informal summit on competitiveness at Alden Biesen Castle in Belgium, the leaders of Italy, Germany and Belgium brought together 16 other countries (Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Denmark, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Finland, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Romania, Greece and Sweden), for a total of 19 countries. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also took part in the meeting.
