Milan, 17 March (LaPresse) – “What the Iranians are implementing is a strategy dictated by desperation. They know they cannot take on the United States and Israel. And so they are trying to provoke regional chaos, attacking us in the United Arab Emirates along with the other Gulf states. It is a way of generating chaos: so that the disorder itself becomes the pressure needed to end the war. A plan that cannot work.‘ This is what Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and former Foreign Minister – who in 2020 was one of the main architects of the Abraham Accords, which led to the normalisation of relations between the UAE and Israel – said in an interview with La Repubblica. ’They have underestimated our defence capabilities. They continue to attack us, despite the success of our response,” he states, pointing out that “they have even targeted Oman, which is their friend: indeed, their most trusted mediator. Who shoots at their friends if not a desperate man?” “I am convinced that the blockade of Hormuz is only temporary. It has happened before. Iran’s ability to maintain it is, moreover, already waning. It is no longer what it was at the start of the war,” he emphasises.
