Iran, Birol (IEA): ‘War poses the greatest energy threat in history’

Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – The war in Iran is “the greatest threat to global energy security in history” and it will take time “to restore oil and gas supplies”. This was stated by the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, in an interview with the Financial Times. Birol said that politicians and markets are underestimating the scale of the crisis, as around a fifth of global oil and gas supplies are effectively blocked in the region. “It will take six months for some sites to become operational again, and much longer for others,” he added.
