Madrid (Spain), 2 April (LaPresse) – Pedro Sánchez’s Spain is not taking part in the video conference summit convened for today by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which will focus on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Indeed, Spain does not feature on the list of the 35 countries participating in the summit. “Spain’s position, of not wishing to do anything that contributes to the ongoing war, remains unchanged,” commented sources at the Spanish Foreign Ministry, when questioned by LaPresse. Madrid, the sources emphasised, “supports de-escalation, dialogue and respect for international law”. Labour leader Starmer, in announcing the meeting to be chaired by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper yesterday, referred to the countries that last month signed a declaration committing to work together to restore maritime security along the Strait, which is vital for oil transport. Spain is not among these countries.
