Rome, Apr 8 (LaPresse) – “Since its presentation to the Israeli Parliament, I have expressed my deepest condemnation for the bill that предусматриes a significant expansion of the possibility of imposing the death penalty in Israel. The law must be withdrawn. It is deeply discriminatory, introduces an inhuman and degrading punishment, devoid of any real deterrent effect.” This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during Question Time in the Chamber. The head of the Farnesina added that Italy’s position “was reiterated to the Israeli Ambassador during the summons at the Farnesina on March 30, which I ordered as a sign of protest for the serious denial of access to the Holy Sepulchre to Cardinal Pizzaballa.” “Life is an absolute value. No one can arrogate the right to take it. Our rejection of the death penalty is clear and without exceptions. Always and everywhere,” Tajani added, before revealing: “An Italian UNIFIL column carrying personnel to Beirut for repatriation was blocked by the IDF. Israeli warning shots damaged one of our vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the column had to turn back.”
