Rome, 8 April (LaPresse) – US Vice-President JD Vance described the ceasefire agreement with Iran as ‘a fragile truce’, but did not provide any details. Vance did not comment on speculation regarding a possible trip to Pakistan to personally take part in talks with Iran. Vance stated that Trump had told US representatives who will be negotiating with Iran to do so in “good faith”, but warned that he is “eager to make progress”. The United States is ready to use “extraordinary economic leverage”, but Trump has ordered us “not to use these tools”. “He told us to sit down at the negotiating table. But if the Iranians do not do exactly the same, they will find that the President of the United States is not one to be trifled with,” said Vance. The Deputy Secretary added regarding Iran: “I believe that if they negotiate in good faith, we will be able to reach an agreement. It is a big ‘if’. And ultimately, it is up to the Iranians to decide how to negotiate. I hope they make the right decision.”
