Iran, media: Chinese delegation in Islamabad to offer guarantees to the US and Tehran

Islamabad (Pakistan), Apr. 11 (LaPresse) – A source from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that a Chinese delegation will arrive in Islamabad on Saturday to assist the Pakistani mediator during the US-Iran negotiations. Beijing could offer guarantees if the two sides reach an agreement. Chinese officials have not publicly described Beijing’s involvement in the dialogue efforts between Washington and Tehran that led to the agreement, and therefore no direct Chinese interest has been revealed. When asked on Wednesday about the possibility that China helped persuade Iran to accept the agreement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning neither confirmed nor denied the involvement, stating only in general terms that China would continue to “maintain communication with all parties and work to ease tensions and achieve a comprehensive ceasefire.” Meanwhile, sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the Pakistani Foreign Ministry has extended an invitation to Saudi Arabia to send a diplomatic delegation to oversee the negotiations, and has also sent a similar invitation to Beijing.
