Gaza, Albanese: ‘States have a duty not to support those who commit genocide’

Madrid (Spain), 22 April (LaPresse) – “Member states have obligations, and companies have obligations, not to trade with, aid or support the state that is perpetrating genocide against the Palestinians. And your actions must be aimed at putting an end to this complicity. You have enormous power to build on what decades of the Palestinian movement have achieved. The ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla can help block this complicity, but discipline, coordination and leadership are needed.” This was stated by Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, speaking at the Global Sumud Parliamentary Congress in Brussels. Albanese urged activists to “use all the resources” gathered and available to be “truly effective” and not run the risk of the Sumud Flotilla movement remaining merely symbolic. “It is about disrupting the material infrastructure that sustains a system in a coordinated manner. Sumud means not only staying, but staying effectively. And I think that together we can do it. But we must be honest with ourselves and not try to institutionalise the revolution,” she said.
