Turin, 26 April (LaPresse) – ‘The provisions on international mutual assistance regarding benefits also apply to the victims of the Crans-Montana fire.’ This is the position taken by Bern, via the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO), as reported by the Corriere del Ticino, regarding the copies of invoices sent to four families of Italian youths who were injured in the New Year’s Eve fire and admitted to Sion Hospital on 1 January, before being transferred to Italy. The FSIO, as the Canton of Valais had already done, reiterates the procedure regarding ‘medical expenses for persons insured in EU/EFTA (European Free Trade Association, ed.) states in the event of non-occupational accidents in Switzerland’, the newspaper writes. “Coverage of medical expenses for the victims of the Crans-Montana fire is guaranteed regardless of the outcome of the ongoing investigations to establish liability,” UFAS further emphasises to the Corriere del Ticino. “The question of any criminal liability and those responsible is the subject of the criminal investigation currently underway. These proceedings have not yet been concluded.”
