Crans-Montana, Lega dei Ticinesi: ‘The Italians are making a fuss over the invoicing case’

Turin, 27 April (LaPresse) – ‘Another shitstorm against us. Italy is no friend.’ So reads the headline of an article in *Il Mattino della domenica*, the official newspaper of the Lega dei Ticinesi party, on the issue of hospital bills for those injured in Crans-Montana. ‘At the start of the year, the fire at the Constellation sparked, beyond the initial uproar, a media and political hate campaign against Switzerland. The worst of the worst emerged. An unequivocal demonstration of the resentment and animosity that, in Italy, is harboured towards us,’ it reads. ‘Now the hate campaign has been reignited following the invoices sent by the Sion Cantonal Hospital to the victims’ families for the treatment provided, with amounts ranging from 17,000 to 66,810 francs. The invoices do not need to be paid,’ the article continues. ‘All the victims’ families have received copies of the invoices. Including the Swiss ones (who are far more numerous than the Italians), the French ones, and so on. In France, nobody batted an eyelid. Only in Italy have journalists and politicians started squawking,’ the article in *Il Mattino della domenica* emphasises once more. ‘Their bad faith could not be more evident, given the circumstances just outlined. The explanations arrived before the invoices, not after. And even the newspapers had initially clarified that there was no bill to pay. But evidently ‘someone’ felt it necessary to ignore the facts and seize the opportunity to throw more mud at Switzerland,’ it reads.
