The arrival of the specialist team was confirmed to the local media outlet Sun by government spokesperson Mohamed Hussian Shareef. The three diving experts were called in at the request of the Italian government, the spokesperson said, adding that the governments of the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States had also offered assistance. The search operations for the four Italians were temporarily suspended following the death of an experienced diver from the Maldives National Defence Force, who was involved in the mission. The deceased serviceman has been identified as Staff Sergeant Mohammed Mahdi.
