Rome, 21 May (LaPresse) – Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit North Korea soon, possibly as early as next week. This is according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing informed sources. “We have received intelligence indicating that President Xi Jinping will soon visit North Korea,” said a senior government official. This year, the two nations are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the signing of a comprehensive cooperation treaty. The possibility of a summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un would “certainly be a topic of discussion” at the meeting between the Pyongyang leader and the Chinese president. “Huge tectonic plates are shifting,” said South Korean Unification Minister Chung Dong-young, referring to the series of recent summits between the United States, China and Russia. “The time has come to reflect deeply on strategic options for stability, peace and mutual prosperity amidst these momentous changes in the geopolitical landscape of North-East Asia surrounding the Korean Peninsula,” he added, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.
