Brussels, 22 May (LaPresse) – ‘The good news is that the funds are actually coming in. Many allies are stepping up their efforts, accelerating progress towards the 5% defence spending target agreed in The Hague. And this literally means tens, hundreds of billions of dollars more in defence spending over the years.’ This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte upon arriving at the Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Sweden. ‘Resources are a very good thing, but we must also spend them. And that means investing in the men and women in uniform, but also ensuring they have what they need to deter and defend themselves. So, investing in defence industry production. A debate is underway to ensure that production is ramped up in the defence sector,’ added the head of the Atlantic Alliance.
