Turin, 29 May (LaPresse) – Romanian forces were unable to shoot down the Russian drone because there wasn’t enough time. This was stated by Brigadier General Gheorghe Maxim at a press conference reported by the media in Bucharest. ‘The first constraint we face is of a legal nature; we cannot open fire in such a way as to strike the airspace of a neighbouring country,’ he explained. ‘Furthermore, intercepting and striking an aerial target requires a certain amount of time, involving identification, classification and engagement. The four minutes we had available were extremely few,’ added Maxim. “We have ground-based air defence systems that were designed and built before 2023, when this conflict with drones began, and Romania is constantly seeking to improve these systems. The Safe programme includes two such platforms,” he said.
