Milan, June 10 (LaPresse) – Two police officers were injured during violent unrest in anti-immigration protests yesterday in Belfast, which erupted after a Sudanese man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a man in his 40s on the street. This was reported by Hilary Benn, Minister for Northern Ireland. “Nothing can justify the violence we witnessed yesterday evening on the streets of Northern Ireland by masked thugs,” said Hilary Benn, UK Minister for Northern Ireland, speaking at a press conference about the protests. Benn added that protest organisers claim to be “protecting” communities but are in fact “doing exactly the opposite”. “It is absolutely shameful,” he said. Also present at the press conference was police chief Jon Boutcher, who said the violence is an “insult to the victim” and to all those involved, including the citizen who “bravely” stepped in to help, and urged the public: “please, please, please let the criminal process take its course.”
