Frankfurt (Germany), 17 June (LaPresse) – The leaders of Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Poland will meet next week in the so-called E5 format in Berlin at the invitation of the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz. “I have invited our partners to a meeting in the so-called E5 format in Berlin next week. On that occasion, we will also take stock of the G7 and the European Council. Furthermore, we will use this format to make further preparations for the upcoming NATO summit,” said Merz, speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian, noting that “on issues concerning Ukraine, we have always coordinated closely with all our European partners, in particular with Poland and the United Kingdom”. “As you can see, there are various consultation formats. I always try not to exclude anyone, but at the same time to assume, together with the key Member States that are part of both the G7 and the European Council, a certain degree of leadership responsibility. All of this is always done in coordination with our other partners and with the utmost transparency regarding our actions. For this reason, I believe we have already created many of the conditions necessary to make the upcoming NATO summit a success,” Merz added.
