Washington (USA), 17 June (LaPresse) – The United States has published the official text of the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran. A senior US administration official, speaking to journalists, read out the 14-point document, which sets out the provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the easing of certain financial restrictions against Iran, and defines the expectations for addressing Iran’s nuclear programme during future technical talks. “This is essentially an agreement that allows us to reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately, commits the Iranians to destroying nuclear waste and provides us with a response mechanism: if the Iranians improve their behaviour, we will respond by stepping up economic support measures and easing sanctions that can contribute to the country’s prosperity,” said the senior US official.
