Madrid (Spain), June 17 (LaPresse) – Former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero stated that he has acted with “decency and honesty”, said he is accused of “very serious crimes” and that he will prove his innocence. “I am accused of very serious crimes that I did not commit. I have always acted with decency and honesty, and now I have the task of proving it. I will do so with absolute transparency and full confidence,” the Socialist said in a statement sent to the media on the day his questioning before the investigating judge of the National Court began. Zapatero said he had remained “silent for 29 days” out of “respect for justice” and the investigating judge, and expressed confidence that “the truth will come to light”. Addressing citizens who “may feel disappointed”, he asked for their trust. “I will not let you down,” he said.
