Frankfurt (Germany), 18 June. (LaPresse) – Germany will increase its military support for Ukraine with new contributions totaling approximately 350 million euros. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this on the sidelines of a meeting with his NATO colleagues in Brussels. “Germany will participate with 174 million euros, through the Purl mechanism, in a new US arms package for Kiev,” Pistorius said. “We will also provide an additional €174 million for the purchase of guided missiles for Patriot air defense systems.” The Purl mechanism allows allied countries to purchase arms packages from the United States worth approximately €435 million each for Ukraine. Berlin had already participated in the purchase of three similar packages in the past. Other countries, including Sweden, Canada, Norway and the Netherlands, have also announced new supplies. “Germany is taking a leading role in this process,” Pistorius emphasized, adding: “We want to encourage other supporters within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to contribute to the financing of the Pac-3 missiles.”
