Brussels, 18 June (LaPresse) – “I represent the Parliament and its members. I do so with a sense of responsibility and pride.” This was stated by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, at a press conference in response to a question about her potential role as an EU special envoy to engage with Moscow. “If there is a way to reach a peaceful solution, in accordance with the fundamental principle of ‘nothing on Ukraine without Ukraine’, then the Parliament will fully support whatever solution is found,” she added. Metsola noted that “the matter has not been put to her” and, as for the possibility of European Council President Antonio Costa taking on this role, she replied that she “has no doubt that he is capable of carrying out any task entrusted to him”.
