Turin, 22 June (LaPresse) – In France, which is currently experiencing a scorching heatwave, at least 13 people, including two minors, have died from drowning since Saturday. This was reported by Civil Protection officials to Bfmtv. “During this heatwave, staying cool and hydrated is certainly important, but when going for a swim, it is essential to do so in a supervised area,” said the Civil Protection spokesperson. The French national meteorological service has stated that much of the country is entering what is described as the ‘plateau’ phase of the heatwave, characterised by extreme and persistent conditions which, according to forecasts, are not expected to begin easing before Friday. Hundreds of schools remained closed on Monday and many others suspended some lessons, the Education Minister reported. On Paris’s public transport, announcements urged commuters to stay hydrated. The authorities have also stepped up checks on alcohol consumption in public places.
