Brussels, 22 June (LaPresse) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation. During an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street, he announced his decision to step down as leader of the Labour Party, and consequently as British Prime Minister, and said he had informed the King of his decision. Starmer said he had asked Labour’s National Executive Committee to set a timetable for the leadership contest, with nominations opening on 9 July. Nominations will close before Parliament’s summer recess, on 16 July, to ensure a new Labour leader is in place when Parliament resumes in September.
