Washington (USA), 22 June (LaPresse) – A federal judge has quashed the subpoenas issued by the Department of Justice as part of an investigation into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and his aides, describing them as “manifestly unlawful” because they were acts of retaliation for Walz’s refusal to support President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration. In a strongly worded ruling, Judge Patrick Schiltz stated that there was “no doubt” that the subpoenas had been issued to harm Walz, as part of a series of actions by the Trump administration aimed at using the criminal justice system to punish the president’s opponents. The ruling quashes six subpoenas issued by federal prosecutors against Walz, the mayors of Minneapolis and St Paul, the Attorney General of Minnesota, and the commissioners of Hennepin and Ramsey counties.
