Turin, 23 June (LaPresse) – “I have enormous respect for President Mattarella; I regard him as a wise statesman and I heed his sound advice. The incident involving the UNIFIL troops was a mistake; we have admitted as much, and we are continuing to investigate. There was a Hezbollah position nearby; obviously — God forbid — we have no intention of targeting UN soldiers.” Israeli President Isaac Herzog made these remarks in an interview with *Corriere della Sera* regarding the attacks on UNIFIL peacekeepers. “As far as the mission is concerned, we have no problem with the Italian troops; our problem is the mandate: there has been, and there is, no will or capacity to prevent a terrorist group from stockpiling weapons on the border with us. It was Hezbollah that violated the UN resolution passed after the 2006 war: we cannot live like this under constant bombardment of northern Israel; I told President Mattarella this,” he added.
