Berlin (Germany), June 24 (LaPresse) – “We must act united for the security of all allies,” said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at a press conference in Berlin on the occasion of the E5 summit. Merz then spoke of “five messages” from the summit involving Germany, Italy, France, Poland and the United Kingdom. “We want a strong and united NATO for Euro-Atlantic security. Strengthening the European pillar. We are increasing defence spending to 3.5% and other countries are making massive investments,” he explained, adding that another message is that “unilateral initiatives are the wrong path and cooperation must be strengthened at the European level.” The summit therefore highlighted the need for “teamwork” in the European industry. From Berlin, there was also a reaffirmation of “strong support for Kyiv” and the “message to Russia that Kyiv remains strong and European support will not weaken.” Finally, Merz stressed that the summit also supports upcoming negotiations following the agreement between Iran and the US.
