La Guaira (Venezuela), 26 June (LaPresse) – The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 589, with 2,980 injured, said interim President Delcy Rodriguez. “We will rescue those still trapped,” she said, “we are working tirelessly on this task,” whilst surrounded by government and military officials as she welcomed the arrival of rescue teams from around the world. Rodriguez stated that the state of La Guaira had been hardest hit by the earthquakes, emphasising that it had been “militarised” with rescue teams searching for survivors and distributing food and water.
