Tokyo (Japan), 27 June (LaPresse/AP) – Two tropical storms, Mekkhala and Higos, have hit western Japan, bringing heavy rain that has caused flooding and landslides. A landslide in Yamaguchi Prefecture killed a man in his seventies and injured others when a house collapsed. The heavy rain has also caused severe disruption, with homes flooded in Nara and Hiroshima and transport services, including trains and flights, suspended. In Kyoto, the River Kamo swelled rapidly and burst its banks, spilling murky water and triggering flood warnings in Kyoto, Osaka and the surrounding areas. The authorities reported over 30 flooded homes and warnings still in place as the storms continued to batter the country.
