(LaPresse) – Iran’s Mehr news agency, citing Tehran government officials, said Iranian authorities expect around 20 million people to attend funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli-American airstrike in late February. Funeral ceremonies will begin on July 4 in Tehran and the city of Qom. Burial will take place on July 9 in Mashhad, Khamenei’s hometown in the northeast of the country. According to the Mehr news agency, with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees, authorities are working with the police and the Revolutionary Guard Corps to ensure events go smoothly.
