Washington, June 29 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump said in a post on his social network Truth that the lawsuit brought against him by writer E. Jean Carroll is a “fake case” and that he has never met the woman, calling the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to hear his appeal “surprising.” “I will continue to fight with all my strength against this case, which has been exploited for political purposes and used as a legal weapon against me, including the ridiculous defamation claim,” Trump wrote, stating that the case, in which a jury found him liable for sexually abusing the writer in New York City in the 1990s and later defaming her, is “actually directed against the United States of America and everything it stands for.” The Supreme Court declined to take up the case in a brief, unsigned order. In a statement released today, Carroll said the decision confirms that the jury’s verdict will remain in place. “His repeated attempts to appeal that verdict have all failed and today’s ruling puts an end to his attempt to avoid being held accountable for his actions,” the writer said.
