Rome, 29 June (LaPresse) – Chinese President Xi Jinping has received the authoritarian Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing. The Chinese news agency Xinhua reports this on its website. During the meeting, Xi emphasised that China and Belarus “are true friends who trust and support one another, excellent partners for common development and prosperity, and global strategic partners in all circumstances”. He went on to state that China “supports Belarus in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as in pursuing a development path suited to its specific national conditions”. “China is willing to continue providing assistance to Belarus’s development and construction to the best of its ability. The two countries should mobilise resources from all sectors to promote the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and enrich the substance of pragmatic cooperation. China is willing to work with Belarus to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind, strengthen coordination and cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and act as a stabilising force in a turbulent world,” said the Chinese leader.
